Europe Votes – A Preview to the European Elections
Bill Wirtz interviewed by Kai Weiß
In cooperation with Students for Liberty Austria
On May 26, Europeans will go to the polls to vote for a new European Parliament. It has been described as an election which could determine the course of the EU for many years to come. Will the old forces of the center-right and center-left be able to hold on to power or will new movements from the right, left and even center, with Emmanuel Macron’s En Marche debuting on the European level, further gain momentum in shaping the future of Europe? What role will Britain, now participating after all before Brexit eventually happens, play? Is there any place for classical liberal ideas? These and other questions will be discussed on May 22, just a few days before the elections take place.
Bill Wirtz is a journalist and policy analyst from Luxembourg. Mostly staying in Brussels, he writes primarily about European and EU politics. His work has been published among others in France24, SkyNews, The Times of London, Le Monde, Le Figaro, Die Welt, and the EUObserver.
The interview will be held in English.
