Carl Menger, the Greatest Economist
In this talk, Mark Skousen makes the case that Carl Menger (1840-1921) deserves to be anointed the greatest economist who ever lived. He was the revolutionary discoverer of both the correct view of microeconomics (marginal analysis of pricing, costs, utility, and production) and macroeconomics (structure of production, law of imputation), and the importance of focusing on the quantity, quality and variety of goods and services rather than aggregate income and wealth data to determine individual and national standard of living. In short, he and his followers (the Austrian school) enhanced and perfected Adam Smith’s system of natural liberty. Menger’s pathbreaking analysis is without peer among economists.
Mark Skousen, Ph. D., is a professional economist, investment expert, university professor, and author of more than 25 books. He is the founder of FreedomFest.
